Fantasy Football – Week 1 Preview

Some people around the county were excited last week claiming football season had arrived, when in fact it was just the amateurs playing a game with no actual playoff system. In (my) reality, football doesn’t start until the NFL season kicks off… and last night that happend. I’m still trying to figure out why the 1st game of the season was scheduled for a Wednesday instead of Thursday. it’s always easier to rationalize meeting friends at the local watering hole on a Thursday night, when only one (groggy) workday separates me from the weekend. But alas, I went out last night to watch the game, was “forced” to consume a few alcoholic beverages, and found myself to be a little groggy this morning. I powered though it nonetheless and am ready to finish off the work week tomorrow after what I hope to be a good nights sleep tonight.

As I’ve done in the past, I will post a preview for the upcoming fantasy football games and do my own version of Monday Morning Quarterbacking after the weekend games are over. The preview will include analysis of Fantasy Football, Football Pick ‘em, and Survival pools. At the start of each year my quest is to win all 3 leagues, but haven’t been able to pull off the feat to date. But there’s always next year… and next year starts now!

This week the Konmen face Winning is My Forte. I’m going to venture a guess he’s from the Chicago area and a Bears fan, but I could be wrong. At least he was smart enough to pick the player his team is named after. Yahoo! projections have the Konmen winning by a 10 point margin. I tend to think Yahoo! projections are high at the beginning of this season, but that goes both ways, so here’s hoping Yahoo! calculations have it right on the point spread.

I find Survival picks to be toughest during the 1st week of the season. No one really knows what’s going to happen, good teams can get off to a flat start and bad teams can find lightening in a bottle… or the better team flat footed. I decided to go with the Eagles over Cleveland with the pick. In theory, if I can get past this 1st week, the next few weeks should get easier.

Pick ‘em picks are rather difficult for the same reasons as Survival picks. I’ve decided to go with the vast majority of favorites this week. The only upset is Pittsburgh over Denver. Although, I’m intrigues to see P. Manning in his 1st game back after missing out on the 2011 season due to neck issues.

Let the games begin!
