Last week I returned home after 2 full weeks on the road for both personal and business reasons. The first part of the trip, which lasted only 3 days (not including travel days), was spent in the New York area. This was the personal part of the trip and the most exciting. During this part of the trip I attended a christening. Well, I did more than attend the christening, I was part of the attraction as I became a godfather along with my brother. An interesting add-on to the christening was the reception afterward, which was extensive, having the same look and feel of a wedding reception. People danced, laughed, and had an overall good time. And now, you may refer to me as The Godfather.

Sadly, due to the limited amount of time I had available, I wasn’t able to catch up with any friends during the trip. But the trip made me realize how infrequent my trips are to New York. Turns out it was my first time in NY since 2009. That’s a long time to spend away from where I grew up and has brought up thoughts of moving back to NY to be able to spend more time with family and friends once again.

The second part of the trip, which included the vast majority of the time, was spent in Birmingham, Alabama. This was my third straight year spending time in Birmingham for business. As a result, there’s not a lot to note about Birmingham that I hadn’t done or noticed already. One thing I did like, that I don’t get to see very often now and didn’t see much of when living in the Denver area, is the lush greenery. I was also lucky to spend time in Birmingham during a period where the weather was more than bearable. The heat and humidity started to get into uncomfortable territory only during the last couple of days. The only time it rained was the last day, which you can see in the picture above taken at the Birmingham airport. I’m thinking the next trip there, which will occur the week before Memorial day, will be less bearable as summer starts to take hold.

It’s nice to be home now though, catching up on TV shows recorded on the DVR and relaxing. As always, I’ll post some news and notes from the trip after returning home.
