Adventures in travelling, 2010 style.

It didn’t take too long into the 2010 year to have my first travel adventure, or is it misadventure.  Yesterday was supposed to be my last day in Phoenix. Well, the weather just wouldn’t have any of that. Rain and high winds caused the Phoenix airport to close. Southwest noted on their website before noon that all flights after 2 PM would be cancelled. Slowly all flights to LAX were cancelled… except mine at 5:20. The flights before mine were all cancelled. The flights after mine were cancelled. The 5:20 flight, still on time as of 1 PM. Well, shortly after then it was finally cancelled. I quickly re-booked a flight online for today (I’m at the airport now) and a hotel for last night, the same hotel I checked out of yesterday morning. This time though I was given a suite for the night. Not that I would take much advantage of it, the whole process was pretty stressful yesterday so I passed out early, which was also needed to get to the airport this early morning. In the end I like how Phoenix airport handled the whole situation by closing shop early. There was no sitting at the airport waiting, wondering, getting aggravated. I was able to take care of business online and go on with the rest of the day. Good job Phoenix.

  1. So much for that, just minutes after clicking submit, Southwest got on the intercom to notify us they are swapping out the plane and will be approximately 1 hour delay. Ugh.
