5 Star Dealer, Really?

The dealership / service I used in Colorado for my Jeep was a good service experience. When I arrived they would look at my previous appointments to figure out what needed to get done from a service perspective. There was no pressure to do all of the services recommended, but they kept me in the loop. It was a nice to know the options that helped keep my Jeep in good working condition.  My last experience at the South Bay Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership?  No so much of a good experience.

Last week I scheduled an appointment with at the South Bay dealership to bring my Jeep in the following Saturday. At the time I scheduled the appointment I told the person I wanted an oil change, my breaks checked, and the check engine light was on. When I arrived on Saturday it was like they had no idea I was coming. This is the 3rd or 4th time now that I went to this dealership, one would think they would be ready to tell me what service I had during the past year and what’s coming up on the service schedule. Nope. So I repeated the request and added a couple:

  1. Oil Change
  2. Check breaks and contact me to determine if I should replace them.
  3. Determine why the check engine light was on.
  4. Check the tire pressure, which I know was low and needed to be filled.
  5. Loosen the clutch as it requires a lot of pressure to press.  This is usually something I don’t notice until driving another car with a manual transmission, which my brother has.

About 3 hours later, after shopping with a friend at a nearby mall, I called the dealership to get the status.  After getting a live person, I was forwarded to a voice-mail!  A few minutes later I got a call notifying me that I need new rear brakes and what was causing the check engine light to be on, which was going to need a replacement part and expensive work.  A few hours later I got a call that the service was done.  When I got to the dealership about 45 minutes later my paperwork wasn’t even ready, which took about 15 minutes while my friend waited outside to make sure we were all good.  On the way home I noticed the clutch still required a lot of pressure and the tire pressure was still low.  Even worse, this “5 Star” dealership provided a nice little checklist of courtesy checks, which included a check mark next to the tire pressure signifying it was checked.  So, not only did they ignore my request to check the tire pressure, they outright lied on the checklist.  To make sure we’re clear, the tire pressure was under 30 psi and the tires have a recommended 33 psi, so they were definitely low.

I’m left to assume Chrysler Jeep Dodge has very low standards for meeting the 5 Star Dealer requirements.  Anyway, I will no longer be going to this dealership.
