I agree it’d be a tough call. I think I’d have to assume the list is gonna come out sooner or later. That being said, I think I’d like to come out and state that yes, I was on the list.

However, I’m sure the 108 are being told by the Union to keep quiet.

I think where a guy is at in his career would influence whether he spoke up.

Enough of this though already….pitchers and catchers!!!

Tough question. The baseball fan in me would like to see them all come out and admit the truth. And chances are none of the remaining names are going to have the same impact that A-Rod, Bonds, or Clemens did.

As a player, I’d like to say I’d be a leader and admit to it, but I’d probably wait it out at this point. If the list is published to the public I’ll go ahead and take my lumps. If not, I’ll go through the rest of my life with a cloud over my head and a constant headache.

I’m interested to hear what you would do?

Maybe we are on two different paths here. I agree it is not likely that I, or you, or a celebrity/athlete would admit something without being caught…BUT…he was asked on national TV and he lied, and YES, this was AFTER he knew he tested positive in the 2003 test. Typical high profile numnutz thinking he can get away with anything.

What did he think Katie was gonna ask? “OK Alex, tell me…what’s your favorite pizza topping?” Why did he agree to be interviewed??

On this topic though, if you were a player on the remaining list of 103 who tested positive, what would your game plan be?

Again, you’re looking for A-Fraud to admit to Katie Courik before he was caught. Yes, that would’ve been an impressive move, but I just don’t see any person – not just a celebrity – admitting to an illegal act before being caught. Seriously, would you? Celebrities by no means live in the same reality as us, but I still don’t think we should expect them to admit to an illegal act before being caught as I don’t see a non-celebrity doing it either. In other words, although I do agree they live in a different reality, the standard is still there.

1 – I can’t say he learned from other’s mistakes:

Others had been asked, they lied, and it came back to haunt them.

He was asked, he lied, and it came back to haunt him.

How did he learn??

If he had learned, when Katie Couric asked him if he had taken the juice, he’d have said “You know what? Years ago, I did, and unfortunately, I realize now that it was a huge mistake and I stopped.”

2 – I don’t know if I fully believe this, but here goes… Should they be held to the same standard as us? I’m not so sure. They certainly don’t live in the same reality as the rest of us shlubs. A-Fraud makes more in 2 days than I make in a year.

Athletes (and celebrities) don’t have the same risk as everyday peeps. They don’t perform…no problem, it’s a slump, but they can try again tomorrow or on their next movie. We don’t perform…pink slip. They give their team problems…no problem, they can play for another team. We give our employers problems….pink slip. And here’s the best.. break the law…no problem as long as you still have talent. We break the law…you know. Case in point…correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the use of the juice illegal?

So both of you give no credit to a guy for learning from others mistakes?! I’m not giving him credit for doing ‘roids, that would be ridiculous. What you’re saying is if you were in his situation you would have admitted to doing ‘roids years ago without having been caught. All I ask is that we hold others to the same standard that we would ourselves, and I find it hard to believe that either one of us would have come out and admitted it without being caught, especially with millions of dollars sitting on the table.

thanks Mike for summing this up perfectly. When I first read this post I got all in a huff and really wanted to say something. Problem was, I couldn’t really articulate what it was that was bothering me. I suppose another problem was that I don’t really give a rats a@@ about sports so I was just as happy to move on. So for you K I’ll just say ‘yeah, what he said’!

Ok, maybe kudos is the wrong term. But I do have a thing about holding these guys to a different standard. When’s the last time you – or anyone – readily admitted to doing something wrong or illegal without being caught. That just doesn’t happen. Tell me one person that readily admits to adultery or theft or murder without being caught. In theory, I agree with your comment. In reality, as much as the world would be a better place for it, it just doesn’t happen.

Hold on. He did not ‘admit it’. He GOT CAUGHT…and then he admitted it. Same as Pettitte…and Giambi…and anyone else who got caught and then says “yes I did do them”, or “nah – must be a mistake”.

It’s funny, a lot of these guys are asked in interviews whether they ever did steroids, or HGH or whatever, and it’s always the same “Huh? Me? Juice? Oh no no no. I never..I mean why would I do that? No sir-ee. I’m as clean as a whistle.” Then they get caught, and then it’s too late. Where was A-Rod’s admission when Katie Couric asked him? Why did he not come clean then? It was only 13 months ago…

The kudos should go to the player(s) who come out and say “You know what, I’ve never been caught, but yes, I have used steroids”. Those are the players that deserve the props.

Any one of those other 103 players on that list will do themselves an honor to come clean before they are forced to come clean.
